I purchased this from a Minnesota estate. There is a note inside indicating it “Belonged to Dr. Harriet B. Conant McLoud – First woman to graduate from Minn. Medical College (about 1902)” There is no additional provenance.
I found
Harriet Beecher Conant of Minneapolis listed on The University of Minnesota’s 1891 commencement program under THE
COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AND SURGERY
. There was another woman listed among the 19 graduates. I don’t know if they were indeed the first women to graduate from the University of Minnesota’s medical school.
The entry for Harriet Beecher Conant in Wikipedia includes:
Going to Minnesota she entered the medical department of the University of Minnesota
in October 1888, and was graduated in 1891.
Through the influence of the dean, she received the appointment of resident physician in the South Dakota Hospital for the Insane in Yankton, South Dakota,
the day after receiving her diploma. On June 12, 1900 she married Hames Henry McLoud.
